Here's a few highlights from Sunday's little throwdown. Thanks to everyone who came along and made it possible.
Well, its been a good few weeks now since my first WOD at CrossFit Weymouth and I’m still coming back for more! After starting CrossFit at CrossFit Weymouth to help improve my fitness for sailing I have thoroughly enjoyed it (even though I have left feeling sick on at least 2 occasions) and still strongly believe that it will help to improve my sailing performance. This will be important as I’m starting to campaign full time in the 470 class from September onwards. Previously I sailed the laser standard however have made the switch to a 470 crew as I was struggling to stay heavy enough as I was towards the shorter side of the fleet. Since leaving lasers and starting to sail 470’s I have lost 4kgs to make me the right weight however I feel as strong as ever and continue to feel like my strength is always improving. I can’t thank Ben & Holly enough for helping me into CrossFit. I first experienced CrossFit over a year ago and did a couple of workouts with a friend but then didn’t really do anymore. Upon my decision to try and campaign as a professional full time sailor I decided that I needed to go from an in-shape U19 athlete to an elite professional male athlete and this would require me to massively step-up my fitness. I wrote to Ben & Holly with my idea which was, I wanted to do CrossFit, get really fit and then I would fatigue less during racing which would allow me to focus more on tactical decisions. Ever since this they have been so supportive. Also on the same note of support and encouragement I’d like to say thank you to the CrossFit Weymouth ‘family’ who have really made me feel welcome and are really supportive. Looking forward the next steps for me are exciting, hopefully I will be becoming full time from mid-September onwards. Training towards the British Olympic ranker events in October/ November and then the Palamos Christmas regatta in Spain during December. All through this process and beyond to 2017 I’m excited that CrossFit will remain a staple of my training regime. This is great from my point of view for two reasons, firstly because, I believe that it will make me fit (and is probably better than what most of my competitors are doing) and secondly because I come away from every WOD motivated for the next.
All the best to all at CrossFit Weymouth and thank you again for welcoming me aboard, James
